Can you get into Yale with Bs? ›

For example, at Yale a whopping 96% of students graduated in the top 10% of their high school class. If you have a few B's and are still at the top of your class, you remain in a strong position! But if you slip low into the ranks of your high school class, your chances at the Ivy League may fall away too.

It's absolutely possible to be admitted to an Ivy League school with a few B's on your transcript. Admissions aren't solely based on your grades, they consider a holistic approach and evaluate multiple factors like extracurricular activities, leadership, essays, recommendation letters, and standardized test scores.

It's not possible to say that a certain number of B's is too many. As evident above, you don't have to be a straight-A student to get in. Although you might have a low unweighted, your weighted will still be good because the B's are in AP's. Don't worry too much about GPA.

Getting into Ivy league with a few B's is possible, although you would most likely have a harder time getting in. If you can get good test scores (ex. SAT, ACT, AP exams), have a strong list of EC's and a good admissions essay you can definitely get in.

Very roughly speaking, having a 3.9 unweighted GPA in the middle of senior year when one applies to colleges, means one has no more than 2–3 Bs as semester grades throughout the 3.5 years of high school at about six-seven academic periods a day.

What is a 3.5 GPA? A 3.5 GPA is 90% or a B+/A- average. This means you probably mainly earned B's (3.0) and A's (4.0) in your coursework.

You should also have a 4.14 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score. For a school as selective as Yale, you'll also need to impress them with the rest of your application.

No one can tell you for sure that you won't be able to get into an ivy just because of that one class or that you would have been able to get in without that class. Ivy's do tend to expect great grades across the board as well as rigorous classes.

Earning a 3.7 GPA indicates consistent academic achievement. It means you can apply to just about any school with a good chance of being accepted (except for the Ivy League schools, but that's because there are no circ*mstances of guaranteed admission at Ivies).

While grades are important, having one B won't be an automatic disqualification, especially if the rest of your application is strong. A challenging course could even show that you're not afraid to step out of your comfort zone academically and are willing to take risks to learn.
