When you connect your bank, transactions are automatically imported so you don't have to add them yourself. As you confirm and categorize your spending, Goodbudget learns your patterns so it can auto-categorize your transactions next time, making it even easier to keep your budget up-to-date.

With Goodbudget's automatic bank syncing feature offered with the Premium plan, you're able to connect your real-life banks with your Goodbudget ones. When you link Accounts, your transactions are automatically imported into Goodbudget for easier tracking.

You Need a Budget (YNAB) app tools

You Need A Budget (YNAB) automatically syncs to your bank accounts, credit cards and investment accounts once you link them to the app.

You can use the free version of Goodbudget for as long as you like. You will never be charged for it.

Why we recommend it: Goodbudget is more about planning for your finances than tracking previous transactions. This app is based on the envelope budgeting system, in which you portion out your monthly income toward specific spending categories (called envelopes). This app doesn't connect your bank accounts.

You enter your income and categorize your expenses into virtual envelopes within the app. Then, you set aside a certain amount of money in each envelope to help you budget. Unlike Mint, Goodbudget doesn't link to your financial accounts for real-time tracking of your finances.

Even if you trust a particular budgeting app, you cannot guarantee that your bank password is adequately secured and protected within its systems (and its third-party data aggregators). Data breaches, hacking incidents, or even rogue employees could expose your credentials.

We want to be clear on this point: As a part of this OAuth process, YNAB does not request, view, make use of, or store any data other than what's required to process and display your accounts and transactions.

The free version allows only one financial account, and the Plus version allows unlimited accounts. So those who want to monitor their spending from checking or savings accounts, as well as from a credit card, can do so only if they pay for the Plus plan.
