New Delhi: Ever stuck with a situation where you went to withdrew cash from ATM but it did not dispense cash? People often think that that the fault is in the ATM machine. But that is not always the case. The reason behind this could be many such as technical error, suspicious transactions, debit expiry, withdrawal limit, a mismatch in AVS and CVV, etc.

Here is the list of issues due to which ATM fail to dispense cash-

1. At times bank or the merchant are not able to process the transaction due to a poor internet connection or technical glitch. During such a time, try using your debit card or go to another terminal. You can even go to your bank and seek help

2. The joint bank account can be opened with your spouse, children, other family members or even with a business partner. They possess an equal right to use the debit card of that account. Therefore, they can deactivate the card whenever they want.

3. Many banks have the right to decline debit card transaction in case they feel it be a suspicious one. This could be due to, too many wrong PIN feeding or different spending habit of the cardholder.

4. At present, banks have asked their customers to link their debit card with EMV chips which are highly secured. It ensures transparency as well. The basic cards might get outdated in sometime which will become inactive. Another important factor is the debit card expiry. One should check his or her debit card expiry if ATM fails to dispense cash.

5.Withdrawal limit: Several banks offer the facility to carry out a certain number of free of cost transactions from ATM. Over the mandated number of free of cost, transactions are charged for their transactions at ATM. Then there is a daily spending limit on the debit card. Once you exceed that, you can not carry out the transaction.

6. If your ATM does not dispense cash despite sufficient balance then there are chances of skimming. It is an act of stealing card information through a device by fraudsters. In this situation immediately contact the guard or visit your bank and get your card blocked.

7. There are two things card verification value (CVV) and address verification system (ADS). CVV is a three digit number mentioned on the back of the debit card. It is also known as a security code. Whereas ADS is developed by the banks to identify suspicious transactions. If in case these two things mismatches with data stored with the bank, your transaction will be declined.

However, it is advisable to get your cards blocked if your transaction is declined by visiting your bank. After this, apply for a new debit card.
