What does "associate fellow" mean? ›

Associate Fellowship (Descriptor 1) is awarded to recognise an individual's effectiveness of practice in teaching and/or support of learning as demonstrated through evidence of meeting the following three Descriptor 1 criteria statements: D1.

The estimated total pay for a Associate Fellow is £53,248 per year, with an average salary of £38,479 per year. This number represents the median, which is the midpoint of the ranges from our proprietary Total Pay Estimate model and based on salaries collected from our users.

However, a research fellow often works on a project-by-project basis under the supervision of a senior scholar, and the projects are funded by a federal or private research grant or endowment. A research associate is generally on the payroll, has a formal job description, and works full-time.

To meet the criteria for FHEA (D2) you need to demonstrate that your practice with learners has breadth and depth, and that you are able to evidence all Dimensions of the PSF. The effectiveness of your practice in teaching and/or support of high-quality learning must be demonstrated through evidence of: D2.

The title of “Fellow” alone indicates a position of prestige.

While fellows usually make a little more money than residents, their salary is not as much as that of a physician who has completed their studies. If a resident decides to practice as a physician instead of becoming a fellow first, they will receive a much higher pay raise than waiting for the extra year(s).

The "Fellow" distinction is bestowed by professional organizations upon individuals who are recognized as leaders in their field of research. Only those who have made extraordinary and outstanding contributions to a scientific or technical body of knowledge -- over a lengthy career -- receive this honor.

In US medical institutions, a fellow refers to someone who has completed residency training (e.g. in internal medicine, pediatrics, general surgery, etc.) and is currently in a 1 to 3 year subspecialty training program (e.g. cardiology, pediatric nephrology, transplant surgery, etc.).

“ASSOCIATE FELLOWS shall be persons who have accomplished or been in charge of important engineering or scientific work, or who have done original work of outstanding merit, or who have otherwise made outstanding contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.”

Each college has a community of Fellows, members of the University drawn from different departments and schools, as well as Associate Fellows, usually members of the larger community, who engage in college life.

Fellowship is one of the highest honors the Association bestows. To be awarded Fellow, the nominee must have made outstanding contributions to the discipline of communication sciences and disorders. The key word for this award is "outstanding:" the nominee must truly stand out among one's peers.

Corporate, Technical or Industry Fellow in either Science or Engineering is the most senior rank or title one can achieve in a scientific or engineering career, though fellows often also hold business titles such as Vice President or Chief Technology Officer.

Fellows do not have to have a PhD (though many do). People may also be Fellows of colleges which is again status but not an academic qualification. Assuming you mean a postdoctoral fellowship here. A post-doc is precisely what the name implies — a job for someone who is finished their PhD.
