Final 2022 Crochet Christmas Stocking

This is it! The final stocking in my four-part 2022 Crochet Christmas Stocking Series. This beautiful Aspen Crochet Christmas Stocking may be my favorite. What do you think? Did I save the best for last?

The funny thing is, I never intended to create 4 patterns this year. My original goal was 3. My husband and I went on a cruise and I needed a crochet project that was easy to carry around for “at sea” days. Any C2C crochet project would not cut it. So, I just brought a couple of skeins of yarn and my size K hook and ended up designing this additional stocking.

The Aspen Crochet Christmas Stocking uses front post double crochet and the camel stitch (stitching in the “back bar” or “third loop”) to create its elegant texture. If you don’t know how to stitch in the back bar, Google it and find a video to learn it. It forces both of the top loops forward creating a nice braided look on the stocking.

Christmas Morning Traps

Remember how I mentioned in the Telluride Crochet Christmas Stocking post that my siblings and I would get up super early on Christmas mornings to look in our stockings? My parents came up with a solution for that. One that unfortunately for them backfired.

My parents decided that they had had enough of us sneaking downstairs to see our stockings, so they decided to try to hinder us from doing so. They decided to put obstacles in our path. The first year was plastic grocery bags that would make noise if we brushed them on our way to the family room. From there it just escalated.

Instead of keeping us in our rooms allowing my parents to get more sleep, it became a challenge that we looked forward to. And the grandkids have embraced the traditions wholeheartedly! Even today—with my dad being 80 years old and only having one arm—any time grandkids visit at Christmas, he (being the good sport that he is!) will still dream up new traps.

Over the years, my dad’s traps included:

• Balancing marbles on pizza pans
• Wiring tripwires to our doorbell
• Creating an Indiana Jones-esque weight-sensitive sensor

It has been a fun tradition. One that many of us have carried on with our children.

The Aspen Crochet Christmas Stocking

Get ready for Christmas now and crochet the Aspen Crochet Christmas Stocking! It takes about 5 hours to stitch which is a little longer than my other stockings. It can still be easily finished in a weekend and the texture on this stocking is so worth the effort! Just look at those stitches in the photo below! Mrs. Claus would definitely approve.

I’ve been wanting new stockings for my family and now that I’ve stitched so many samples, I definitely can hang new ones this year. My mother-in-law made adorable bear-shaped stockings when my kids were little and we’ve enjoyed them for 20ish years. Now that my kids are grown, it’s time for more grown-up decorations as well.

The Aspen Crochet Christmas Stocking measures about 6 inches wide X 22 inches long when crocheted at the suggested gauge.

Supplies Needed

~ 6.5 ouncesLoops and Threads Impeccable Yarn 4.5 oz skeins or other size 4 medium weight yarn. The body of this stocking is worked using a double strand of yarn. You’ll need 2 skeins or balls of yarn about 3.25 ounces each.

The sample stockings were stitched from: HEATHER, RED HOT, and KELLY GREEN.

~ 1.5 ouncesLoops and Threads Impeccable Yarn 4.5 oz skeins or other size 4 medium weight yarn. The cuff of this stocking is also worked using a double strand of yarn. You’ll need 2 skeins or balls of yarn about 1.25 ounces each.

The cuffs of the sample stockings were stitched from WHITE.

~ Size K/6.5 mm hook for the body of the stocking.
