The Artificer is not included in the basic classes that are free on DND Beyond as it was a class that was added later. In order to unlock the Artificer, you will need to either purchase the books, Eberron - Rising from the Last War or Tasha's Cauldron of Everything.

The Artificer class has not been published in any free source yet, hence you must purchase access to it. The Artificer subclasses can be purchased for $1.99USD from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, which can be found at this link (scroll down to see the individual purchase options).

To get the Artificer class, you have to buy one of the subclasses (or the books with the subclasses in it). If you personally have purchased one of those options, you should check your Entitlements, and, if needed, resync them (Hover over your account name in the top right > Go to My Account page > Marketplace tab).

1 Battlesmith

The Battlesmith is the quintessential Artificer subclass in the eyes of many, as it combines many of the most notable traits of the character class while also adding a few unique inventions to the handbook.

Given its thematic context, an Artificer can acquire a Pistol from the nearby blacksmith, or even craft one themselves. Artificers can infuse the Pistol with Repeating Shot, grab a Shield, and they can become a potent long-ranged combatant.

The rules say that you can infuse a maximum of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 per long rest. The only explicit writing on the maximum number of infused items is: "each of your infusions can be in only one object at a time. Moreover, no object can bear more than one of your infusions at a time."

Artificer won't be in DnD's 2024 PHB due to its niche nature, but will be reintroduced in a future book, according to developer Jeremy Crawford. While Artificer is popular, its unique flavor can be hard to fit universally in all DnD settings.

With the right infusions and spells, they can fill nearly any role in the party, making the Artificer's versatility rival that of the Bard. However, the Artificer is complicated. This is not a class I would recommend for new players or for players who suffer from analysis paralysis.

The artificers of Dungeons & Dragons have the potential to be the most valuable asset to an adventuring party. They wield unique weapons, gain access to creative spells, bolster the power of themselves and others with magic-infused equipment, and always have the right tool for the job.

If you haven't bought one of the sources like the PHB that has feats, and you're not in a campaign with content sharing turned on, the only feats you'll see are the free ones, which have prereqs or can otherwise be hidden behind filters you might have turned off.

The Artificer has been officially published in Eberron: Rising From the Last War as of the 19th of November. As it is no longer playtest, you can find it in that book, or by purchasing any one of the Artificer subclasses individually, which will unlock the base class!
