Are satin whites affected by the yellowing issues?

still struggling to decide what paint to purchase to redo my white trims and doors
im thinking id really prefer oil based , but are the satins effect the same as golss whites sinse 2010?

Satin doesn't seem to be as affected by yellowing but all oil based paints will yellow overtime.
Waterbased paints are the way to go to avoid yellowing.

We decided on satin white in the end and pleased we did. I think it looks good.
However, the painter told me you can't put water based paint over gloss. It just peels off.

Dulux Diamond Eggshell. If your not after a gloss I'd highly recommend this.
Expensive but well worth it.

does the diamond eggshell flow out ?
its kinda expensive if i buy it and dont like it , i just like the way oil based stuff brushes /flows , never had satin so was unsure if its effected like the gloss is
not too worried if its gone a bit in years , but this last stuff i used has gone magnolia inside cupboared doors in a year

I've just completed a barn conversion and was recommended the eggshell by our painter.
He done a sample door and to me there's just no comparison, but then I'm not a lover of gloss.
He loves using it so I'm guessing it flows well.
As its water based you won't have the yellowing problem.
Personally I'll be using it on all my developments.

just tried a test piece with jonstones retail gloss water based and i cant get on with that , brushing leaves all the marks and/or tries to pull it off again , rollering its gone on totaly matt with a stippled finish and you can see all the roller strokes lol

The key to using a roller is you MUST finish with a brush.

I've just redecced my stairwell & landing ahead of carpet replacement tomorrow. I'd previously oil glossed all the woodwork & within 18 months, it was pretty much bright yellow. To be fair, the area gets no sunlight at all. So This time, I went with water based gloss.
It doesn't go on as well as oil, streaks stay put & the finish is more satin than gloss, but if it stays white longer, then happy to stick with it.
Phone pic, but you get the idea. Paint went on on Tuesday & Wednesday this week.

yeah its all learning ..im no expert
thing is with this stuff (maybe its poo or maybe im uselsss) its gone sticky after one pass on the roller , more like trying to use watered down glue than paint

Could try watering it down a touch, with the coverage issues that would bring. Not a fan of rollering gloss at all though.

this stuff would take 100 coats if i watered it down
what brand did you use justin? ive got flat doors so need something that doesnt leave brush or roller marks

Cheapy Wickes this time. Lots of prep, one coat, then wet & dry for a smooth key & second coat. Pleased with the results. Looking on the deccy forums, many pro's recommend Johnstones water gloss, but I've had terrible coverage problems with their retail paints in the recent past, so I swerved it this time round.

yeah id seen the jonstones reccomended ..thought id try thier retail one hoping to get an idea of what its like
trouble is these trade paints are 30-40 for a 2.5l tin , thats alot if i cant get on with it

I've just painted some new ready primed MDF skirting and architrave, after problems with some yellowing gloss in another room I went for Dulux Satinwood, water based. First impressions were not good, like painting with milk! But after a second coat I'm quite pleased with the results. Dries in a couple of hours, no smell and appears tough and durable.

Dulux satin wood 'brilliant white' starts yellowing after a couple of months. I did the whole house in that so was really pleased now that I'm having to do it again. I'm currently using Crown's equivalent and it seems to be much better now yellowing 3 months since painting.

The Crown satin I'm currently using is water based.
