I have arthritis through out my body andcan not walk very far without getting a great deal of pain in my hips and feet. I am a diabetic. On my doctors' advice I purchased and electric scooter to get around outside the house. Is the scooter a deductible medical expense on my federal income tax?

Are electric scooters deductible on federal taxes ?
Yes, you would treat the scooter as a wheelchair. Based on the IRS publication, you can include in medical expenses amounts you pay for a wheelchair used mainly for the relief of sickness or disability, and not just to provide transportation to and from work. The cost of operating and maintaining the wheelchair is also a medical expense.
For more information on medical expenses, visit the IRS publication below.
