Reading Partners is partnered with AmeriCorps, a national service opportunity that activates passionate individuals to support critical needs in communities across the United States.

At Reading Partners our AmeriCorps members are the heart and soul of our program and come from diverse backgrounds and lifepaths to support students K-4 in becoming lifelong readers.

During AmeriCorps service, our members collaborate with a network of partners to recruit and coach volunteers, support students during and outside of tutoring sessions, work on capacity-building projects, and so much more.

Are AmeriCorps positions in-person?

AmeriCorps members will be required to serve full-time and on location.

Is AmeriCorps service a paid position?

Yes! During their term of service, AmeriCorps members earn a modest living allowance, along with other benefits.

I have no prior experience working in schools. Can I still apply?

Yes! We provide training to our all of AmeriCorps members and are always looking for passionate individuals who understand our mission and are interested in serving the students in their community.

What are the eligibility requirements to serve AmeriCorps with Reading Partners?

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Hold US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
  • Be at least 18 years old at the beginning of your service
  • Have not completed more than four (4) terms with AmeriCorps

Is there an age limit for AmeriCorps positions at Reading Partners?

You must be 18 or older to apply, however, there is no age cap.

What AmeriCorps positions are available at Reading Partners?

AmeriCorps positions at Reading Partners typically involve working directly with students, community partners, and volunteers in the following roles:

  • School-based roles: Tutor students and coach volunteers
    • Regional program coordinator
    • Program coordinator
    • Literacy lead
  • Community engagement role: Recruit and engage volunteers
    • Volunteer coordinator

How long is an AmeriCorps term of service?

AmeriCorps terms are full-time and can range from 7am- 5:30 pm, Monday-Friday, and can vary in length based on available opportunities:

  • 1,700 service hours, 11- months
  • 1,200 service hours, 8-9 months
  • 900 service hours, 5-6 months

Can I be a student or have a job during my AmeriCorps service?

Yes, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the roles and responsibilities of your full-time service term, you can attend school or work a second job.

What’s the deadline to apply for AmeriCorps with Reading Partners?

We accept applications on a rolling basis based on available openings and deadlines may vary. Historically, applications open during the following times:

  • 11- months service: Spring
  • 8-9 months of service: Summer
  • 5-6 months: Fall
