No, it’s not required. Be aware UK and Western Europe use PIN numbers for > some < credit card transactions. Apple Card doesn’t use PIN for credit transactions. If you need a PIN for Apple Cash and you use 0000.

Carry Apple Card and either a Visa card or another MasterCard. American Express can be problematic in more rural/remote areas. But almost everywhere Tap-To-Pay is accepted so be sure to add your cards to your Apple Wallet.
