About the Item

This antique 19th century red coral necklace is set with a large 18 karat gold clasp. The clasp is made of fine filigree and cannetille work, the craftsmanship is stunning. The closure of the clasp has a lovely floral engraving. The six strands are created of natural coral set with barrel-shaped beads and strung with red thread. The coral is of good quality and has a beautiful color- Corallium Rubrum.In the 16th century, the traditional costume was created in the Netherlands, including jewelry made of coral, which lasted until the 20th century. These types of jewels represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands. This type of necklaces were especially worn in the northern part of The Netherlands. The necklace is in very good condition and of high quality. Marked and tested as 18 karat gold.
