WHAT The Heck Is Airbrush?!
An airbrush system uses air from a compressor to push makeup, tanning solution, or paint through the gun in a million little droplets, resulting in a thin even layer of product application. Because the makeup, tanning solution, or paint has to pass around a needle, the formula has to be thin in consistency. This allows the applicator to apply the desired coverage with thin layers of airbrush instead of thinning out thicker formulas.
WHY The Heck Airbrush?!
Airbrush is formulated to be long-wearing, transfer, and water-resistant. That means when applied correctly, it’s lasting through all the highlights of your event/wedding without major touch-ups.
Traditional liquid makeup requires a solid skin prep and setting in order to achieve a long-wearing application. Liquid makeup can tend to settle into lines or pores while the body temperature rises and falls. Even with the best application technique, this is how liquid makeup is formulated. For liquid makeup to have its consistency, it needs filler ingredients to give the texture it has. This means it will eventually start to lift and separate when you are busting it down for your peeps on the dance floor, kissing and hugging people.
Is It Good For All Skin Types
Airbrush is amazing for all skin types, especially mature, oily, acne-prone, sensitive, and rosacea. That’s the main perk to using airbrush makeup in my kit. One foundation works for all skin types and goes from light to full coverage. We use the Temptu Perfect Canvas Airbrush Foundation because it’s silicon-based and will not clog pores. Because the airbrush makeup is applied through the airbrush gun, it’s more sanitary due to the artist not having to touch or apply tools to your skin. If you have acne or sensitive skin, your face loves this benefit.
Can Airbrush Makeup Be Applied Without The Airbrush Gun
This is where I will lose a lot of makeup artists on this topic, but it needs to be said. Without getting into ingredients, I like to put it this way. The best type of sunless tanning is spraying your tan with a specialist by hand. Amiright?! If you applied that same solution with your hands or a tanning mitt, it wouldn’t give you the same results. When a tanning specialist sprays you, they can pull back and apply a super thin layer on parts like the elbows, ankles, feet, and hands so that it doesn't tan too dark but apply more on areas that don’t grab tanner as well. This is the same concept with airbrush makeup. I can customize your coverage by pulling less or more on the trigger with one application. Putting the airbrush makeup through the gun gives better coverage with less makeup PERIODT.
Will My Skin Look Cakey or Feel Heavy
NEVER! If you have texture on the skin, this is the holy grail for you. Because the airbrush is applied without hands or tools, we don’t create an exfoliation process while applying your makeup. Sometimes, we can make the texture worse by applying traditional liquid makeup with a buffing brush or makeup could not grab because we use a beauty blender. When this happens, you can read it as cakey makeup, but in reality it’s just not correctly applied makeup. As mentioned before, because airbrush is applied in thin layers without sacrificing the coverage, it never feels or looks heavy when applied correctly.
Should You Get Airbrush Makeup?
I have been a makeup artist for 15 years and have been doing airbrush for the last 9 years and I can confidently say YES! I have spent years going back and forth from liquid or airbrush and every time I get galleries back, I go straight to the dance floor photos and airbrush wins every time. Whether your event/wedding is in the chilly January or the blistering July, your makeup will last through all of that when applied correctly. I keep saying when applied correctly because airbrush can be the worst thing you have ever experienced if you have an artist who hasn’t honed in their skills.
