The AP is considered the High School standard of academic excellence in the US, and is increasingly accepted as a quality university entrance qualification in Europe and the rest of the world.
College Board Advanced Placement Programme® (AP) enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.
The program consists of college-level courses developed by the AP Programme that high schools and corresponding examinations that are administered once a year. Students have the opportunity to dig deeper into subjects that interest them, develop advanced skills, and learn to tap their analytical potential. Most US colleges and universities offer credit or placement for successful AP examination results.
AP courses are fully recognised in the United States and Canada, where approximately 3,000 colleges and universities take part in the programme. The vast majority of universities that receive AP grades grant credit or advanced placement for successful examination results.
In addition, each year the AP programme confers awards to High School students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their AP examinations.
AP International Diploma (APID)
It requires students to display mastery on AP Exams across several disciplines, and represents an exceptional level of achievement.
Students must earnscores of 3 or higher on five or more total AP Exams, allowing students to demonstrate that they have exceeded most university entry requirements, and some of the most competitive scholarship awards consider students’ AP Exam scores. Many universities also use AP Exam scores to place students into honours classes.
Currently available at ACS Cobham from 2022
ACS is proud to be one of the first international schools around the world – and currently the only school in Europe – to offer this exciting new programme.AP Capstone is built on the foundation of a new, two-year High School course sequence — AP Seminar and AP Research — and is designed to complement and enhance the in-depth, discipline-specific study provided through AP courses. It cultivates curious, independent, and collaborative scholars and prepares them to make logical, evidence-based decisions.
Combining Scholarly Practice with Academic Intensity
AP Capstone was developed in response to feedback from higher education. The two AP Capstone courses, with their associated performance tasks, assessments, and application of research methodology, complement the rigour of AP courses and exams byequipping students with the power to analyse and evaluate information with accuracy and precision in order to craft and communicate evidence-based arguments.
