Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (2024)

You can add files and other content to your site, including:

  • YouTube videos, calendars, and maps
  • Pages or sections of content from other websites
  • HTML, CSS, or JavaScript code

Important: If a file is stored on a shared drive or has restricted sharing permissions, only people with access will be able to see the file. Learn how to change sharing permissions of your Google files.

Tip: This option is for new Google Sites. Get help with classic Google Sites.

Add Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms & Charts

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, click Insert.
  3. At the bottom of the menu, select the type of file you want to add, e.g. Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, or Charts.
  4. Choose a file Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (1) Insert.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Tip: To ensure all visitors to your site have access to the files you insert, first publish your document in Google Docs, Sheets or Slides. In Google Sites, go to Insert Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (2) Embed Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (3) insert the link to the published document.

You can also follow the instructions on how to add content from another website. First publish your document in Google Docs, Sheets or Slides. Then in Google Sites, go to Insert Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (4) Embed Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (5) insert the link to the published document.

Add a Google Group

  1. On a computer, open a site in thenew Google Sites.
  2. Click theInsert tab.
  3. SelectEmbed.
  4. Enter the group URL.
  5. ClickInsert.

Add YouTube videos, calendars & maps

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, click Insert.
  3. Select the type of file you want to add, e.g. YouTube, Calendar, or Map.
  4. Choose a video, calendar, or placeAdd Google files, videos, website content, & more (6)Select or Insert.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Add a file from your computer

You can upload a .jpg, .png, or .gif image file from your computer.

Tip: To add other file types, use Google Drive.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.

  3. Choose a file from your computer Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (8)Open.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Share files with your site collaborators

To ensure files embedded in sites are accessible to all site collaborators and viewers, you must share file access with them when you publish a site. You can update sharing permissions when you embed a file, publish, or share a site.

Add a page or section of content from another website

You can add web addresses, Google Apps Scripts, Data Studio reports, and App Maker apps. You can also embed a full website page.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, click Insert Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (11) Embed.
    • You can also add an embed as an entire page.
      1. At the right, clickPages.
      2. Hover over Add Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (12).
      3. Click Full page embed Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (13).
  3. Enter the URL you want to embed.
  4. Click Insert.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Tip: Some websites won’t let you add their content to your site. If you can’t add content, contact the website’s owner.

Add HTML, CSS, or JavaScript code to your site

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the right, click Insert Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (14)Embed.
    • You can also add an embed as an entire page.
      1. At the right, clickPages.
      2. Hover over Add Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (15).
      3. Click Full page embed Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (16).
  3. Click Embed code.
  4. Add your code, then click Next.
    1. JavaScript code must be within <script> tags.
    2. CSS code must be within <style> tags.
  5. Click Insert.
  6. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Add Google files, tables & other content

Add calendars, maps, and Google Drive files

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click the page you want to edit.
  3. At the top, click Edit page Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (17).
  4. Click where you want to insert the file.
  5. At the top left, click Insert and choose the type of file you want to add.
  6. Choose a calendar, chart, file, map, or YouTube video and click Select or Save.

Add a Google Group

You can add a Google Group to encourage discussion on your website.

To add a Google Group, convert your site to the new Google Sites.

Add and manage files

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click the page you want to edit.
  3. At the top, click Edit page Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (18).
  4. At the bottom of the page, clickAdd files.
  5. Choose a file and click Open.

Reorganize, rename, or delete files

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. At the right, click More actions Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (19).
  3. Click Manage Site.
  4. On the left, click Attachments.
  5. Click the file you want to edit.
  6. At the top, choose an action.

Tip: You can only rename or replace one file at a time.

Know your storage limits

If you created your own Google Account:

  • Your site can be up to 100 MB.
  • Max attachment size: 20 MB.

Add a table or table of contents

Add a table

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click where you want to insert the table.
  3. In the toolbar, click TableAdd Google files, videos, website content, & more (20)Insert table. If you don’t see the toolbar, click Edit page Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (21).
  4. Choose the number of rows and columns you want in the table.
  5. Optional: To delete a table, double-click the border of the table. Then, click TableAdd Google files, videos, website content, & more (22)Delete table.

Add a table of contents

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click where you want to insert the table of contents.
  3. In the toolbar, click InsertAdd Google files, videos, website content, & more (23)Table of contents. If you don’t see the toolbar, click Edit page Add Google files, videos, website content, & more (24).
  4. Click Save.
