en WordPress.com Forums About commissions fees, andtransactions.
Hello! First off I’d like to apologize if this is a stupid question, and if I missed some things related to what accounts for commissions fees, it’s something I don’t quite understand. Currently I’m trying to make a website dedicated for some land transactions in Indonesia, using the Starter version of WordPress, just something simple, clear and concise. However the 8% Commission fee has me really concerned, these are rather major transactions, and 8% is really huge, as well I’m not using WordPress as a payment service, nor store, so I’m asking if the commission fee would also apply to other transactions regarding land and whatnot.

With the Starter plan, WordPress.com charges 8% for the transaction when using the Payments block:

Hi
wellokcreations
,Could you share any relevant links so we can understand what you mean by Shopify payments? Shopify is a third-party service for selling products directly on their platform. Once I have a better understanding of how you plan to implement that with your WordPress.com site, I’ll be able to assist you with this and answer your question about fees/commissions.
Thanks!
I currently accept payment via shopify. I have started designing my wordpress site, and I have enrolled in Stripe payments. Can I still accept my payment through shopify? I would like to continue with shopify, but dont want to have to pay wordpress commission fees plus shopify
Thank you for the additional details. Could you please share the following as well so that I have a better understanding of the overall setup?
- You mentioned you currently accept payments via Shopify. That means you have a store running on Shopify. Do you intend to close that shop after moving over to WordPress.com?
- Having enrolled in Stripe payments, do you plan to start selling/accepting payments via Stripe (instead of your Shopify store)?
I’m mainly trying to understand if you plan to keep your store with Shopify and build a website on WordPress.com. Basically, you can create a store on Shopify and on WordPress.com, and ideally, the store (where your customers can pay for products and services) should only be in one place, not both.
Some businesses prefer keeping their store with Shopify while having a dedicated website on WordPress.com. Some move over to WordPress.com completely, so they no longer have a store on Shopify. Can you tell us what you’re planning to do with your existing Shopify store?
Hello [Customer Support Team],
I hope this message finds you well. My name is [Your Name], and I am a user of WordPress.com. I have been considering the use of affiliate marketing as a monetization strategy for my website hosted on your platform.
I recently came across information regarding the fee structure associated with the WordPress.com Payments block. However, as my primary revenue model is through affiliate marketing, where I earn commissions by promoting products or services via affiliate links, I wanted to clarify if these fees would have any impact on my affiliate marketing activities.
Could you please confirm whether the fees mentioned for the Payments block apply solely to direct transactions on my site, and if they would have any bearing on the commissions earned through affiliate marketing efforts?
I appreciate your assistance in providing clarity on this matter. Thank you for your time and support.
Best regards,
Hi @rioker686,
If you add affiliate links to products, we don’t take commissions for your earnings through those third-party products since you won’t be using our payment blocks to process payments. For example, if you’re an Amazon affiliate marketer, you will continue to earn commissions when your referral links generate sales on Amazon. We won’t be taking any commissions on those earnings.
Hope that helps!
