In order to begin “A Colossal Problem”, players must first drop a nuke on Monongah Mine in the Savage Divide. After launching your Nuke, a Public Event Icon will appear on the Map and all players will receive a notification that “A Colossal Problem” has begun.

Another clue as to how to gain entrance can be found in the form of a raider's note. In any case, the next step is to drop a nuke on Monongah Mine, triggering the event quest A Colossal Problem, thus gaining access to the mine's interior.

Should time run out and Earle is still alive, the quest fails and players are teleported to the Monongah Mine exterior, but this will not result in rewards. Dying during the fight results in respawning in the large cavern with the previously blocked mine shaft, dropping down again to rejoin the fight in short order.
