An electric scooter comes with many advantages. It helps you avoid traffic and it consumes very little energy. It is also very easy to carry and store, so you don’t have to worry about parking or securing it. You simply take it inside when you arrive at your destination. In terms of maintenance, it has very few requirements. In a nutshell, this is a very convenient and low-maintenance vehicle. If there is one thing that all electric scooters could benefit from, that is a longer battery lifespan. The battery industry is experiencing a technological boost and you can expect to see much more impressive batteries soon. While we think of new ways to make batteries last longer, there are several things that you can do to prolong the life of your existing scooter battery. Keep on reading to discover some simple tips for maximizing your scooter’s battery life.

7 Tips on How to Increase Your Electric Scooter’s Battery Life – E-TWOW (1)1. Calculate your average range

Knowing the battery’s capacity is essential if you want to protect it. In the scooter manual and on our website you can find the battery specifications as well as estimated ranges. The range is calculated under test conditions. This applies to all electric scooters because you need to have some fixed parameters to refer to. Our ranges are calculated at an average speed of 20 km/h, with a load of 70 kg, on a straight road with no wind. On your daily travels, these parameters will shift a lot, which will impact your range. Your weight will have the most impact, followed by your speed and the incline of the roads that you usually travel. After a few days, if you write down your travel details, you will get a basic understanding of your battery’s capacity, following your riding style.

2. Don’t drain the battery

Knowing the range is important because you should try as much as possible not to drain your battery. Fully draining and fully charging a battery is only recommended for 3 cycles when the battery is new. This applies to most devices. Ideally, you should not let your battery drop beneath 40%. This can be hard to achieve, so try to at least charge it when it is between 10% and 40%. Keep in mind that the average lifespan of a battery is between 500 and 800 cycles. After this time, it won’t stop working, but you can expect a lower performance. Taking care of your electric scooter will help you make the most of its battery for as long as possible.

3. Use the right charger for your scooter model

E-TWOW scooters come with dedicated chargers. If you misplace or damage your charger, make sure to replace it with an original. While an aftermarket charger may be tempting, it could damage the battery. Just because it fits, it doesn’t mean that it is suitable for your electric scooter.

4. Travel in an Eco style

If your scooter has an Eco-mode, use it whenever possible. It will limit the scooter’s power, thus putting less pressure on the battery. If it doesn’t have an Eco-mode, try to maintain a constant speed. Avoid high speed as much as possible, especially when riding uphill. Try not to carry heavy loads with the scooter and by all means, don’t ride it with a passenger. Not only is this a safety hazard but the extra load will drain your battery.

5. Charge the scooter as often as possible

The beauty of having an ultra-portable E-TWOW scooter is that you can easily carry it anywhere. As such, charging the scooter after every use is effortless. In most of our shops, you can even find a charger bag that you can mount on your scooter. This way, you will have the charger with you at all times. Even if you get to your destination with a good battery percentage like 60% or 70%, you should still charge it. This way, you will be sure that you will go on your next adventure with a full charge.

6. Don’t overcharge it

While it may be tempting to leave your scooter charging overnight, this is very bad for the electric scooter battery. Try to respect the charging time of your particular scooter model. You have this information in the manual and on our website. Disconnect the scooter when it is fully charged. E-TWOW scooters have a very good charging time compared to other electric scooters. It varies from 2-3 hours to 3-4 hours for the GT models. The small charging time is not only convenient, but it also decreases the chances of overcharging the scooter overnight.

7. Store it in the right conditions

First of all, the scooter needs to be stored in a dry environment. The storage area should have a constant temperature of 10-30 degrees Celsius. Extreme temperatures and constant temperature changes can significantly shorten the battery’s life. Make sure the scooter is not stored in a place with direct sun exposure. Moreover, if you don’t plan on using it for a long time, you should charge it at least once a month. The battery percentage should be kept between 50% and 80% when the scooter is not in use.
