6 Reasons Why Dental Work in Mexico Costs Less (2024)

Seeing a dentist in the United States isn't cheap, and some more intense dental work can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

If you're trying to find a way to save on dental work without compromising the quality, you may look to getting dental work in Mexico.

But why is dental work in Mexico so cheap if the quality isn't compromised?

This blog post will talk about why dental work in Mexico can be a great alternative to having it done in the USA without sacrificing quality. Read on for more information to help you decide if dental work in Mexico is for you.

1. The Cost of Living Is Much Cheaper Than in the United States

In general, the cost of living in Mexico is much cheaper than it is in the United States. In fact, the average cost of both rent and Internet in Mexico is under $400 per month, and in some places, it is much cheaper. With a modest cost of living, a dentist would be hard-pressed to stay open if they charged the same prices that they did in the United States.

As with all countries, the cost of living will fluctuate and you will likely pay more for dental work in an area with a higher cost of living.

2. Average Salaries in Mexico Are Less Than in the United States

According to the United States Census Bureau, the median income in the US is a little over $31,000. The average yearly salary clocks in at just under $7,000, or $583 a month in Mexico.

If a dentist charged the same as they charged in the United States, there would be no way most people in the country could afford to purchase dental services. As such, the dentist needs to keep their prices competitive to serve the local population. While many can keep their head above water with dental tourism, most likely also want to make a difference to the local population. With pricing similar to the US, it would not be possible.

On a smaller scale salary, you would find that the prices in Mexico might feel a bit more expensive and are comparable to how much an American dentist is to the average American.

3. There Are No Insurance Costs in Mexico

In Mexico, the idea of medical insurance or dental insurance doesn't exist at all. In the US, people pay for high liability and must pay for their insurance, which can cost more out of pocket for the co-pay than the entire dental visit in Mexico.

Because there is no dental insurance in Mexico, service providers can set costs to whatever they want. Those who can afford it will pay the costs. Those who cannot afford it can go to a different, more affordable dentist or to a government-run dentist's office.

4. The Government Subsidizes Dental Education

When most budding dentists graduate from dental school, they have hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. Because being a dentist offers such a high salary in the United States, they're expecting to be able to pay off their dental loans relatively quickly. However, in order to do so, they must charge the client's, and their insurance, a pretty penny.

In Mexico, the government subsidizes dental schools. Because of this, dentists graduate ready to work without any student loan debt.

They can charge what they need to pay their staff and keep their practice and themselves going. They may decide to charge enough for a profit and live relatively well in Mexico, but compared to how much a dentist would need to charge to do that in the United States, there is quite a vast difference.

Without the need to pay back student loans, they can lower the price to the client.

5. Staff Wages Are Lower

As one can expect in a country with a much lower cost of living, the wages the dentist will need to pay their staff is much lower than in the United States. The wages for the staff will come out of the net profit, which includes the price of dental work. As the dentist won't need to pay their staff as much to continue to operate, they won't need to pass the buck off to their client.

Additionally, the cost of dental labs is cheaper because the workers at a dental laboratory earn less than they would in the US. This also makes up the difference as to why some of the costs are cheaper.

6. Property Is Cheaper

When you go see a dentist, they usually have their own office. This office is something they have to rent or have purchased with business assets. Just like staff wages, the rental fee or mortgage will come out of the cost passed on to the client. With a much cheaper mortgage or rent, the dentist can afford to charge their clients much less than they would in the United States.

Dental Work in Mexico Is a Great Deal

Dental work in Mexico is much cheaper than you would have to pay at your American counterpart; that much is obvious. After taking a look at why it makes a lot more sense as to how you can save so much money without sacrificing quality.

Dental care in Mexico, especially at a private clinic, is top-notch. It is clean, hygienic, and in most cases, just as up-to-date as any dentist in the United States. The only difference you'll see is the overall price tag.
