Many different games have leveling systems, from RPGs to multiplayer shooters. The concept isn't quite the same in every game, particularly when it comes to rewards. When you go up a level in some titles, you get stronger, while in others, you unlock stuff.

What is pretty much universal, though, is the existence of a maximum level that you can't go beyond. The said level is usually something like 30, 50, or 99. However, some developers want to be different and have decided to make the max level in their games much higher. Here are some notable titles that do that.

6 Final Fantasy 15

Max Level: 120

Most Final Fantasy games have a level cap of 99. At launch, this was also the case with Final Fantasy 15. Yet, the cap was later increased to 120 in a patch. It was an interesting change since FF15 isn't among the longest Final Fantasy games and didn't really require a level boost.

After all, you don't need to be level 120 to be able to beat the main narrative. That said, there are some optional superbosses in the game that are harder than anything you face during the story. When going against them, the extra 21 levels are helpful.

5 Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Max Level: 300

Dragon Ball storylines usually revolve around gaining new levels of power that used to seem impossible. So, it makes complete sense that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has a really high-level cap. In the base game, the cap is level 250, while the DLC raises it to 300.

Reaching this level sounds very taxing, but Kakarot is a rather generous game, as while playing through the story, it will regularly boost your level significantly after main fights. This is because the game tries to make your characters as strong as they were in the anime. Then, in the Power Awakens DLC, you're regularly given sacred water, which, when you drink it, gives you a significant experience boost.

4 Elden Ring

Max Level: 713

Elden Ring is known for being quite difficult. It's a FromSoftware game, after all. So, taking advantage of the leveling system is a necessity if you want to get through the whole game. That said, you probably don't need to reach the max level of 713.

Once you reach that point, the game becomes pretty easy, as even the bosses are taken out in a few hits. That may seem like a dream for people on their first playthrough, but leveling up to 713 is its own long and very tiresome challenge.

3 Splatoon 3 - 999

Max Level: 999

When it comes to multiplayer-focused shooters like Splatoon 3, going up levels is more about unlocking stuff than getting stronger. This is just as well because if you got stronger every level, then once you reached the max level of 999, you'd destroy everyone online.

There isn't a big incentive to reach 999 since you pretty much unlock everything once you reach level 30. After that, you get new badges and licenses to purchase weapons that can be unlocked through other means.

2 Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon - 10,000

Max Level: 10,000

Sometimes, games have a level cap so high that it feels like the developers didn't intend anyone to reach it. This is the case with Rune Factory 3, which has a ridiculous 10,000 level you can reach. To say you can reach it is probably untrue, as it is unclear if anyone has ever made it to that number without cheating.

It is certainly not a requirement to beat this simulation RPG. You don't even need to get to the 1000s to finish the game. However, the 10,000 level always gives you something to strive for once the story is over.

1 Fallout 4

Max Level: 65,535

Bethesda didn't include an official level cap in its post-apocalyptic RPG, Fallout 4. The idea is that you can keep leveling up forever. Yet, that isn't really the case, as you can only reach level 65,535. If you go one higher, the game will crash.

Reaching this level without cheating is very difficult, as it would take many, many years, even if you level up quickly. Plus, there is not much reason to get there anyway. After all, the reason you rank up is to increase your S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats, acquire perks, and upgrade those perks. You can do all of that by level 272 in the base game, and it would take until level 286 if you have the DLC due to the inclusion of additional perks.
