Work consumes one-third of our time daily. Have you ever thought about why we do it? Money is the simplest answer, but even in that case, it is not just the salary that is being offered and acts as a motivation. Today we will discuss all the reasons that make a person turn to work even when this is not necessary.

To have money and financial security
For most people, work is necessary to feed their families and themselves. Money is a strong motivation, and survival is directly linked to that. Of course, we could live in the woods and hunt wild animals, but we don’t know if one could make it. In any case, earning money from a decent job is much easier than becoming a loner and fighting on your own. In addition, a good job also means financial security. This is very important for someone to relax and start doing their hobbies without fearing that things are only temporary. This first reason why people work is the most obvious and most crucial.
To be a member of the society
Work does not come alone. It is often combined with a particular career and social interaction during work. People have colleagues, superiors or employees, and this is where the whole game is built. Besides, it would not come as a surprise if people found it hard to accept you if you were not a part of the group. Since everyone does it, they expect you to do it too. Accepting someone who has followed a different road than yours is not easy. If you thought this was the right choice, you would have made it yourself, so the fact that someone else is doing it could imply that you do not have many things in common. People will do anything just to fit in, and working is no exception.
Because we don’t know any other way
It is funny, but in many cases, people have never thought about it or explored their alternatives. The majority of the population takes the fact that they have to work for granted. We do not only talk about people who are very poor and never had the chance to do something else. Plenty of working people are not eager to discover all the wonderful treasures life hides for them and follow a different road.
We simply like it
Let us not forget that work is not necessarily something one must dislike. There are people out there who love their jobs and find them exciting. Actors, professional scuba divers, and artists are often in love with their jobs. But it does not only have to be unique jobs like these. Scientists are often passionate about the topics they study, and businessmen are active and motivated. People in leading positions are more likely to be excited and willing to work more than expected, just to see a project reach the top due to their contribution.
We use it as a therapy
To be honest, there is work, and there is hard work. Some people will use work as a way out to avoid overthinking. This does not mean they are workaholics. They may be in a difficult situation at that point in their lives, and work acts as a pill that can make them slow down the speed of their mind. A person who has woken up at 5 am to feed their cows is unlikely to have a sleep disorder, right? Some people have discovered this side of work. Instead of turning to alcohol, for instance, or shopping to reduce their psychological pain, they use work to overcome depression or stress.
Offering to the society
When we talk about work, we mean that someone is being paid for the service they offer; otherwise, we would say they volunteer. However, not everyone cares that much about the financial aspect of work. Some people care more about offering to society and doing something good regularly rather than the things they get in exchange.
