2-Step Authentication - Microsoft Support (2024)

To enable 2-step authentication/verification:

  1. Go to the Outlook.com website and log in.

  2. Select the gear icon.

  3. Go to Options> Account details (top of the list). You may be asked to sign in.

  4. After the account.live.com page has opened, selectSecurity & Privacy, go to More Security Settings,scroll down and select Set up two-step verification.

  5. You'll have the option to confirm your identity via email, phone or the Microsoft account App. After you've completed this step, you'll need to use an app-specific password to log in via the Outlook App.

  6. Under Security & Privacy > More Security Settings, scroll down and select Create a new app password. Use the newly generated password to log in.

It may be because the time isn't correctly synced on your Google Authenticator app. On the next screen, the app confirms the time has been synced. You should be able to sign in. The sync will only affect the internal time of your Google Authenticator app, and will not change your device's Date & Time settings.
