My Strawberry Princess and I on the Strawberry throne Parksdale Farms in Plant City, FL
Florida produces a large quantity of strawberries each season. About an hour from me, in Plant City, the fruit is celebrated every year, either during the end of February or early, March during the 11-day Florida Strawberry Festival. (The 2018 festival runs from March 1-March 11.)To add to the fun facts, Plant City is actually known as the “Winter Strawberry Capital of the World.” In fact, there’s an amazing Farmer’s Market store there, Parksdale Farms. The place has a vintage Florida vibe, family owned and operated and is an amazing spot where you can get amazing produce, strawberry desserts and sit on a Strawberry throne.
Though we love our strawberry shortcakes and pies, the fruit is so much more versatile than just eating for dessert ( or out of the patch). To celebrate the season, I reached out to my friends in the blogosphere and found 13 amazing non-dessert strawberry recipes you can make with your next bushel.

SPRING SALAD WITH ASPARAGUS, STRAWBERRIES, AND GOATS CHEESE TOASTS
Strawberries just lend themselves to lighter fare, like salads. This post will include several variations of salad recipes. But, to add bread, goat cheese and asparagus just adds such savory depth it astounds me. I am gluten sensitive, so I would adjust the baguette to perhaps a gluten free-crouton. Regardless, this would be an entire summer entree for me. This recipe is courtesy of Caroline Williams who has an amazing food blog, Caroline’s Cooking.
GRILLED KALE SALAD WITH STRAWBERRIES
I love kale, and I love easy… which makes this grilled kale salad recipe from Pam Greer( www.sidewalkshoes.com) absolutely perfect. This recipe just requires a couple of minutes to wilt the kale on the grill. Pam makes a simple dressing, adds the berries and an amazing salad for summer cookouts is ready.
STRAWBERRY AND PINEAPPLE PROTEIN SMOOTHIE
For as much as I love food, I am a bit of a lazy eater in the mornings. I love breakfast food, but mornings tend to be hectic so I like to ‘grab and go.’ Smoothies are a favorite of mine. This Strawberry and Pineapple Protein Smoothiefrom reusegrowenjoy.com is made of two of my favorite fruits! ( I have a bit of a pineapple obsession, too. I even have a pinterest board dedicated to it). This recipe includes coconut oil and a couple other simple, healthy ingredients to help you really start your day right. 3 minutes in the blender ( I love my Oster blender. It is super afforable and gets the job done. I also had a Ninja for MANY years and would highly recommend as a blender with some extra functionalities. )
HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY SYRUP FOR STRAWBERRY SODA
Not exactly intended to be edible itself (though I am sure a spoonful is delish), Gena of gingeredcasa.com uses this amazing syrup to make healthy, homemade soda with sparkling water. She even includes instructions to make it giftable. This is definitely a healthier alternative to canned soda!
SUMMER STRAWBERRIES WITH OLIVE OIL, BASIL & HONEY GLAZE
So, this may tow the line a bit and verge into “dessert” zone, but I had to include this recipe from Alix at A Hedgehog in the Kitchen! First, Alix and her husband lives in Paris…and since we visited last June, I am in love with Paris! If you ever get to make a trip there…DO! (Check out my post with some tips to enjoy the trip!)
I digress.
Truthfully, the olive oil, basil and honey glaze just amp up the sweet simplicity of the strawberry, making this an amazing, easy snack!
STRAWBERRY SALAD WITH POPPY SEED DRESSING
Julia from HappyFoodTube.com uses poppyseeds and balsamic to give a little extra “oomph” for her strawberry salad. This dish comes together really fast and is meant to be made just prior to serving.
For another variation of this type of salad, check out this post from Janell at SavingYouDinero.com. She uses greek yogurt as a creamy, healthy dressing base.
PEPPER JACK GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH WITH STRAWBERRY HOT SAUCE AND ARUGULA
I don’t remember when gourmet grilled cheese started becoming a thing…but I am glad it did! Sandi from FearlessDining.com kicks hers up a notch by using pepper-jack cheese and…. wait for it… strawberry hot sauce! I would have never thought of that! She pairs it with gluten-free bread to make it awesome for peeps like me…but I would imagine any bread would be #delish.
STRAWBERRY GOAT CHEESE CROSTINI
Shannah from MySuburbanKitchen.com provides this delicious recipe for a Strawberry and Goat Cheese Crostini. Simple to make and downright gourmet looking, it would be an amazing pre-dinner bite at your next special summer event.
STRAWBERRY BREAD
I love fruit breads! They are perfect warm out of the oven, after dinner, for dessert and satisfying as a light breakfast. Melanie from melaniecooks.comhas a simple recipe for this sweet looking Strawberry Bread. I would maybe even play around with it and see if banana could be added. Either way, I know Jessie would eat it up!
SPRING SALAD WITH SCALLOPS AND STRAWBERRY VINAIGRETTE
Quail eggs and sea scallops make this Spring Salad with Scallops and Strawberry Vinaigrette a legit, decadent entree.Amy from myworldsimplified.com balances the savory with a sweeter strawberry vinaigrette. Wouldn’t this be a stunning dish to serve on Easter Sunday.

As someone who is gluten-sensitive, I am absolutely in love with Rebecca’s blog, Strength and Sunshine.
